Rumor: Fujitsu to unveil quad-core ICS smartphone with 13.1 MP camera at the MWC

Rumor: Fujitsu to unveil quad-core ICS smartphone with 13.1 MP camera at the MWC

The countdown until the official start of the 2012 MWC is set to start and rumors, leaks and speculations of all sorts will most likely come our way up until the last minute before the Spanish event. One of the most exciting rumors of late points towards the unveiling of a monster of a smartphone running Android Ice Cream Sandwich and featuring among others a quad-core processor and a 13.1 megapixel camera.

The manufacturer behind the making of such a beast is Fujitsu, according to the guys at unwiredview.com, but for the time being, as we have nothing official and not even a leaked picture of some sort, this rumor should be regarded as a not-very-possible thing to become reality.

On the other hand, I for one can’t help but dream and the supposed tech specs of this Fujitsu smartphone are out of this world. I mean, Android 4.0 out of the box is cool enough, but there’s talk about a 1.5 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, a 4.6-inch display, a 13.1 MP rear-facing camera, a water-resistant and dust-resistant body and a fingerprint sensor.

According to unwiredview, Fujitsu will only be bringing ‘’sample units’’ of this new smartphone to MWC and a release is a question of a distant future, but heck, if the gadget proves to be real, I am willing to wait for it for as long as it takes (well, not quite, but you get the picture).

Also, if the rumors prove to be accurate, Fujitsu might be the second Japanese electronics manufacturer to hit the 2012 MWC with a bang, after Panasonic, who is set to unveil the mysterious Eluga smartphone. Keep in touch with our website in the following week or so, when all these rumors, leaks and speculations will be replaced by official announcements and clarifications (or, on the contrary, by silence from the manufacturers destroying our hopes and dreams).

LG Optimus 3D Max remixes LG’s first 3D device: adds NFC, subtracts size

LG Optimus 3D Max remixes LG’s first 3D device: adds NFC, subtracts size

LG was the first Android smartphone maker to release a 3D phone, and it will be the first to release a second 3D phone. LG announced today the Optimus 3D Max, a thinner, faster, and slighty more feature-rich successor to last year’s model.

The Optimus 3D Max will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2012, but LG couldn’t wait to show it off to the Internet. The phone offers glasses-free 3D on a 4.3-inch 3D WVGA screen with high brightness. That screen is also tough thanks to the newer Gorilla Glass 2 we saw at CES last month. The phone easily switches between 2D and 3D thanks to a Hot Key on the side of the phone, and an enhanced converter allows Google Earth or Maps to be viewed in 3D.

LG improved the 3D experience, but it also made some aesthetic changes. The Max is thinner at 9.6mm, lighter at 148 grams, and has cube-based icons that depart from the Samsung Touchwiz-looking interface previously seen in LG phones. Unfortunately, the company also imported Gingerbread into the process, promising that the 3D Max will “receive an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich…shortly after launch.”

Here’s a look at the key specs available in the announcement. The Optimus 3D Max will launch first in Asia, but expect to hear more about European and North American availability in the coming weeks.

  • 1.2GHz Dual-Core processor (OMAP4430)
  • Display: 4.3-inch 3D WVGA Display with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2
  • Memory: 8GB Internal Storage, 1GB Internal Memory
  • Camera: 5MP Dual-lens
  • OS: Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Battery: 1,520 mAh
  • Others: HSPA+ 21Mbps
  • HDMI connection 2D/3D TV/monitor up to 1080p via MHL
  • DNLA for wireless connection with TV/PC (3D video also supported)
  • NFC Full Support, LG Tag+

LG Optimus Vu gets demoed on video, still looks big

With the LG Optimus Vu getting it's official unveiling ahead of Mobile World Congress, there is plenty of folks out there looking to get their hands on the device to get a better look at it. Luckily, the device has been making its rounds and most recently was caught on video.

In it, we get a good look at the 5-inch (1024×768) IPS display and a better feeling for the 4:3 aspect ratio plus, a look at the tools that will be used for hand written notes — just like the Galaxy Note, though there is no stylus present in the video. We'll hold off our full commentary until we get our own hands-on with it but what do you all think of it?

NEC showcases three smartphones in Japan, set to be on display at the MWC as well

NEC showcases three smartphones in Japan, set to be on display at the MWC as well

NEC is a leading smartphone and tablet manufacturer in Japan, but for the time being their products are still unknown to the European and American public. That might well change in the near future, as no less than three NEC smartphones have been shown at a conference in Japan today with the promise that all three will be on display in Barcelona for the 2012 MWC event next week.

All three gadgets are unnamed for the time being and have been teased at the conference by some of their most important features. First off, there’s the ‘’best cloud device’’, a smartphone which promises to integrate better than anyone else cloud services.

This first smartphone features a pretty unique design, with two screens that can be folded from inside to the outside. You can therefore use this gadget either as a smartphone or as a tablet, which is the kind of functionality that we have only seen before at Sony’s Tablet P. No technical details are of course known for the time being, but the manufacturers have promised to come with an extra large battery to power both screens.

The second new device is teased as the ‘’large screen in one-hand’’ model and, as you might already suspect, it sports a large, high-resolution display. Even though there’s no way to know exactly what will the screen measure, if I were to guess looking at the photos, I would say a 4.5-4.7 inch in diagonal. It’s also worth mentioning that the bezel is very thin and narrow, which at least as far as I’m concerned is very, very nice.

Finally, the ‘’most stylish’’ device looks kind of familiar to me, even though I can’t say right now if I have seen the phone before or it just resembles another smartphone on the market. What we can say, though, about this gadget is that it will be waterproof, it will feature a ‘’fast-activating camera’’ and will insist on functionality in addition to good looks and ‘’charm’’.

All in all, all these three future smartphones look intriguing right now, but without knowing exactly what they have going for them under the hoods, it’s not recommended to get overly excited. Hopefully, when they will be on display in Barcelona next week, they will have next to them a more complete list of specs and features.

LG Optimus 3D Cube coming to SK Telecom in early March

LG Optimus Cube 3D

LG today announced the Optimus 3D Cube, brining the "next-generation 3D" exclusively to Korean carrier SK Telecom. The phone sports a 4.3-inch IPS LCD display with dual 5-megapixel cameras on the back to handle the 3D action, and a .3MP shooter up front. It's running Android 2.3 Gingerbread powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a 1520 mAh battery.

The Optimus 3D cube has on-board 3D editing — a first — and it comes with NFC tags so you can set up your own profiles just by tapping the phone.

Huawei 10-inch tablet leaks, looks like a winner with a slim body and Android ICS

Huawei 10-inch tablet leaks, looks like a winner with a slim body and Android ICS

If you aren’t already fed up with pre-MWC rumors, speculations and announcements, we have today for you one of the most interesting leaks of the past few days. A supposed 10-inch Android-based tablet from Huawei is shown in some photos picked up by the guys at hi-tech.mail.ru and, even though most of its tech specs are unknown, the gadget makes us at least curious.

With a super-slim body and set to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, the 10-incher from Huawei might be the Chinese company’s first decent effort in the tablet market. As I already mentioned, there’s not much we know about the slate, but apparently it will feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing auto-focus camera with LED flash, WiFi and 3G connectivity and a microSD card slot.

The processor, RAM and internal storage space are unknown for the time being, but I personally think that we should expect at least a dual-core chipset with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of on-board memory. A quad-core processor shouldn’t be taken out of the equation either, especially considering the fact that Huawei is certainly stepping up its game lately.

I mean, that Ascend P1 S smartphone unveiled back at the CES still looks darn good on paper, with a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, while the Diamond is already rumored to come with extra power under the hood. Having that in mind, why not hope for a quad-core Huawei slate revealed next week in Barcelona?

Stay tuned on Androinica.com for further details about this yet to be named Huawei 10-incher, but also for other exciting unveilings and releases set to happen in the next few days. Also, don’t forget to check out the Huawei leaked photos below and hit us with a comment telling us if the slate actually looks as sweet as we here at Androinica see it!

ViewSonic ViewPad G70 7-incher spotted online: mid-range tablet with Android 4.0

ViewSonic ViewPad G70 7-incher spotted online: mid-range tablet with Android 4.0

An avalanche of new Android-based gadgets is expected to hit us next week at the MWC in Barcelona, which means that until then we are bound to analyze leaks, rumors and speculations of all sorts.

The ViewSonic ViewPad G70 is the latest gadget to pop up on the Internet and might be a device to watch in Spain, even though it’s not set to come with the best performance level possible. The 7-inch tablet has been spotted at CostCentral.com and, despite the fact that we have pretty much no idea how it will look, we are fairly intrigued.

The 7-incher will most definitely run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and other known features include 1 GB of RAM, only 4 GB of internal storage space, dual cameras, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 3G.

No details are for the time being known about the tablet’s processor or about the cameras, but rumors point towards a dual-core chipset, a 2 MP rear-facing shooter and a 0.3 MP front-facing webcam. However, these are only speculations, so as usual, they should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The ViewSonic ViewPad G70 will also come with a mini HDMI connector, a micro USB port and a microSD card slot, which is pretty nice, while as far as pricing is concerned, CostCentral.com is listing the 7-incher with a 311.99 dollars tag.

It’s difficult to say whether the quality-price ratio will be fair or not, as we don’t know what processor will the tablet feature and we have yet to find out a few important details about the screen, but all these should be clarified as soon as next week. Stay tuned on Androinica.com to find out more about the upcoming ViewSonic ViewPad G70!

LG Optimus L3, L5 and L7 smartphones unveiled right before MWC, set to satisfy all tastes

LG Optimus L3, L5 and L7 smartphones unveiled right before MWC, set to satisfy all tastes

LG hasn’t exactly been top dog in the smartphone market during the past couple of years, but that might well change in the upcoming months. No less than three LG smartphones have been unveiled today and will most definitely be on display at the 2012 MWC in Barcelona next week.

The new LG line-up is set to satisfy all tastes and needs and includes a low-end, medium-end and possibly a high-end gadget. First up, the LG Optimus L3 is set to sport a 3.2-inch display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution and will run Android Gingerbread with probably no Ice Cream Sandwich update in store.

Even though we don’t have any more official information about the L3, unconfirmed rumors state that the 3.2-incher will feature a modest 3 MP rear-facing camera, WiFi and HSPA connectivity. There’s no mention anywhere about the smartphone’s processor (don’t hold your breath, though!), but as far as pricing goes, the LG entry-level gadget should be made available for around 190 dollars.

The Optimus L5 mid-range handset should run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box (hooray!) and will sport a 4-inch screen with ‘’enhanced readability’’, according to the LG’s marketing team. I’m not sure what that means, but I personally would expect a decent resolution.

Last, but not least, the Optimus L7 is set to be LG’s frontrunner this year, but for the time being, we don’t know how close will it be to Samsung’s or HTC’s high-end smartphones. What we do know is that the L7 will sport a 4.3-inch display and will of course run Android ICS. No words about the hardware, but a dual-core processor is a must, while a quad-core would be a very nice surprise.

All three LG smartphones feature pretty much the same elegant and fashionable design, with one physical button on the bottom, a metallic feel and nice rounded edges. They also look very thin and compact in the first official photos released by the Korean manufacturer, but for the time being we have no idea exactly what they will weigh and measure.

Stay tuned on Androinica.com in the next few days, because more details are set to unravel as we are getting closer and closer to this month’s most important event in the mobile world, the Barcelona MWC.

Australian carrier Telstra gets the Motorola Xoom 2

Motorola Xoom 2

Australian carrier Telstra will get the Motorola Xoom 2 — aka the Droid XYBOARD on Verizon here in the States. Nothing has changed, really, from the version we reviewed earlier this year. Same 10.1-inch display, same 1.2GHz processor, with 32GB of storage. Pricing variers depending on the data plan, which starts at $29 a month for 1GB and hits $89 a month for 15GB of data. (Those are Australian dollars, which in addition to sounding cooler than dollars here in the U.S. are also worth slightly more. That's some expensive data.)

Oh, and this guy's still running Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Not surprising, but it's about time we see devices shipping with Ice Cream Sandwich, boys and girls.
